Budget design updates for every home

 

With so many stores and websites offering budget-buy home décor offerings, it’s easy and cheap to give your space a lovely uplift.

By thinking in simple and basic terms, a mini-renovation can have surprisingly dramatic results.


New tapware

Changing tapware is not necessarily an easy job but if it is already damaged or old, a mini-renovation is an even better reason to replace it. Most tapware should be replaced around every 10 years.

Just remember to turn off the main water supply system before making the change or things can quickly become very wet.

Also, a plumber’s help may legally be required in some states and territories.


Cupboard handles 

So many stores can offer you a huge range of cupboard handles. Generally, the mini-renovator only needs a screwdriver to make this change, but a drill may also be needed if a larger handle than the existing one is chosen.


Lights

Plain or old light shades are surprisingly visible when it gets dark. But again, it’s easy and cheap to change these on your lamps. 

Don’t forget outside as well, where solar-powered garden lights are a great way to welcome visitors.


Curtains

Replacing time-worn window coverings can be a practical job if the existing ones don’t offer privacy.

Most large department stores offer budget-priced possibilities for this area of the home, including all the extra fittings needed such as curtain rings and rods.

If you are clever with a sewing machine, you might like to buy fabric and make your own curtains.

Just remember to measure and double check the size of all your window spaces before buying any new items.


Couches and beds

Couches and beds may be an expensive item on the shopping list, but new or refreshed details for these items can result in wonderful spaces.

Slipcovers for couches can be purchased in seasonal changes, as can pillows and throw covers. 

Think fresh new sets of sheets, pillowcases and doonas as a start in the bedroom.

Just remember to buy products that are easy to clean, and make sure you also clean beds and couches before adding new purchases to them.
